After growing up east of Pittsburgh in Churchill, PA, John attended Grove City College, where he studied Accounting and Computer Systems.
After graduation, John immediately entered the Accounting and Payroll field, working for a local minority-owned accounting firm before joining one of the top four major accounting firms and climbing his way up the chain of command by consistently delivering outstanding customer service and earning his CPA and CGMA designations.
Eventually, John became the President of Holsinger P.C., growing the firm into a major Pittsburgh accounting firm, where he served for 25 years.
During his time at the helm of Holsinger, John started The Payroll Shoppe, as he saw a deep need for a customer service-driven payroll company with the flexibility to serve small businesses and the expertise to serve large employers.
Today, The Payroll Shoppe offers high-quality service in all 50 states!
Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons, who were homeschooled. You’ll also find John listening to books on tape while tending to his meadow. John also enjoys traveling and exploring—from the waves in the Pacific Rim to the ranges of the Alps—enjoying the sights and tastes.

With over 25 years of experience in payroll sales and client relationship management, I’ve built my career on one simple principle: always be there for my clients. Whether it’s answering my cell phone seven days a week or returning every call and email the same day, I believe in delivering the kind of service that earns long-term trust.
As part of The Payroll Shoppe for the past 13 years, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with every single client we serve, presenting solutions tailored to their unique business needs. I specialize in problem-solving, auditing billing, and ensuring every client feels confident and supported.
Beyond payroll, I foster strong referral networks with CPA’s, accountants, bankers, 401(k) providers, and insurance agents, so I can connect clients with trusted professionals who help their businesses grow.
Outside of work, I’m proud to give back to my community. I’m a notary, a former Big Sister of 10 years who still stays connected with my “little,” and I’ve volunteered extensively at my daughter’s school and on her softball teams. I’m also an active member of the IPPA, attending annual conferences to stay ahead in the payroll industry, and I serve as chairperson for the Sewickley Stampede.
